Call for papers: 2nd International Congress of Young Picassian Researchers

The "Picasso Doctorat" (a free and open-access doctorate training program, in collaboration with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Université de Picardie Jules Verne in Amiens, and the Museu Picasso in Barcelona) launches the call for papers for the 2nd International Congress of Young Picassian Researchers, within the framework of the actions initiated since the program’s creation in 2019, which focuses on the work and figure of the artist. The first edition of the Congress took place in 2023, gathering more than 10 speakers at the Museu Picasso in Barcelona.
The main goal is to explore the contributions currently being developed by students, with both academic and artistic profiles. In recent years, Pablo Picasso’s figure and body of work have been approached through a wide range of multidisciplinary perspectives, opening new ways of thinking about the artist. From the visual arts, literary creation, and performance, to cultural, gender and decolonial studies, sociology or politics, Picasso has generated numerous lines of inquiry that have challenged canonical art historical narratives and encouraged new analytical frameworks. This congress is conceived as a diverse space for the production and sharing of knowledge, taking Picasso’s life and work as a base, with the intention of revisiting his figure through undisciplined methodologies that foster new critical discourses.
The congress will be structured around presentations, whose conclusions will be discussed in workshops. Our aim is to create a space for collective reflection that enhances the connections and enriches the research of participants. Presentations may be oral or performative, and may include visual or audiovisual materials. Communications can be delivered in Spanish, Catalan, French, or English.
This call is open to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, as well as to researchers wishing to share their latest work on the artist. Interested participants should send a short abstract (approximately 1 500 characters), the title of their presentation, their contact information, and a brief CV to: congresopicasso@gmail.com
A digital repository of the congress communications is planned, provided the papers undergo the required external peer review. Guidelines for submission and deadlines will be shared after the conclusion of the Congress.
